COLUMBUS, Ohio – Today, more than 100 Ohioans with a past record gathered at The Linden Community Center for a neighborhood event to promote community empowerment and public safety. Organizers are calling it a “new day” for those ready to work to build safe, economically vibrant neighborhoods in every corner of the state.
TimeDone Ohio members joined local crime survivors to advocate for common sense public safety policies that help break cycles of crime and victimization. Members also received free information about housing, employment, legal services, and other resources to help them break free from post-incarceration poverty.

MI CRIME SURVIVORS PRAISE GOV. WHITMER FOR $4M IN NEW TRAUMA RECOVERY CENTER FUNDING IN STATE BUDGET
Governor Gretchen Whitemer today signed a state budget agreement that includes an unprecedented $4 million for a 3-year trauma recovery center (TRC) pilot program at two locations in the state. These funds will establish TRC programs serving victims of crime, providing comprehensive wrap-around services such as legal assistance, mental health care, and connection to other crime-related services that will help survivors heal in the wake of violence.
GOVERNOR SIGNS SENTENCING CREDIT REFORM TO MAKE ILLINOIS COMMUNITIES SAFER
Governor Pritzker signed HB 3026 into law, which improves sentencing credits for those in prison by awarding credits fairly and equitably. This bill ensures that people are incentivized to complete rehabilitative programming, be better prepared for success after release, and less likely to cause harm. HB 3026 is sponsored by Rep. Kelly Cassidy and Sen. Robert Peters, and was supported by crime survivors across the state.
VESSA REFORM SIGNED INTO LAW IN VICTORY FOR ILLINOIS CRIME SURVIVORS
Governor Pritzker signed HB 2493 into law, which reforms the Victims’ Economic Security and Safety Act (VESSA). This new law expands eligibility for family members who have lost loved ones to violence, for those who are not otherwise eligible for bereavement leave under other laws. Victims would now have 10 days of unpaid leave to grieve or make funeral arrangements, helping survivors heal and putting an end to cycles of victimization.
