Lori Schmelz serves as the Grants Associate for the Alliance for Safety and Justice, bringing over 20 years of grants experience to the development team. As a seasoned development professional, she has successfully secured funding for a variety of nonprofit organizations around the country as well as directing funding programs at state arts agencies in Maine, Pennsylvania, and South Dakota. Lori’s experience includes leading the creation of a program to drive arts-based community and economic development in cities throughout Pennsylvania, successfully securing grants to diversify funding at picfest in Oregon, managing a live/work housing program for artists in Washington, DC, and serving as a panelist to review funding proposals on a local, state, and federal level. Following earning a BA in Music at West Virginia Wesleyan College, Lori received an MBA and MS in Arts Administration from Shenandoah University. Originally from West Virginia, she currently resides in Oregon with her family.
