Alliance for Safety and Justice
We were founded in 2016, with a vision to replace the overuse of incarceration with more effective public safety solutions. Focused on large states, we partner with state leaders and advocates to achieve safety and justice reforms that break cycles of crime, reduce costly incarceration and make communities safer.
We center our advocacy around the leadership and experiences of crime survivors and people with old records in pursuit of safety, fairness and healing. Alliance for Safety and Justice is a program of Just Safe.

Our Impact
- More than 90 legislative victories in numerous states, including Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas.
- More than $1.5 billion in public funding invested into new public safety solutions proven to reduce violence and improve well-being, including violence intervention, mental health treatment, trauma recovery, reentry and diversion.
- Expanded access to record relief for 3 million people, creating pathways to redemption, reducing recidivism and ensuring people coming home from incarceration have the opportunity to contribute to their families and communities.
- Opening more than 25 new trauma recovery centers to help victims of violence who are least likely to get support, heal and recover from harm.
- Expanded access to state victim compensation and assistance programs for 500,000 victims of violent crime to make sure those impacted by violence can access stability and healing.
- Reduced the number of people unnecessarily under correctional control by 330,000 people through smart sentencing policies that hold people accountable without holding them back from pathways to redemption.
